ooooOOOOO Canada.......

BACK! when Roger, Jack, and Jr were just youngins......

Canada decided they were tired of the same old flag

The people of Quebec had their own ideas of what the new flag should look like.

Which didn't seem to set very well with the rest of Canada......

After the usual debating and pissing around.... (you KNOW how Canadians are....)

The rest of Canada decided on a different version to represent them.

and so on February 15, 1965 the Maple Leaf flag became the new national emblem.

That delivery guy looks remarkably similar to the new UPS guy that runs our route.

the Quebec idea for a flag is kinda neat. They might keep that in mind for when they do the Quebecexit.

Thanks for the reminder, Bret. I was 16 at the time the new flag was raised at our school. Since that time, it has become a well known symbol of Canada around the world.

Oh I bet so but I sure the hell would not invest any money in the Quebec franc... they can't seem to grasp fiscal responsibility.

Did I get the historical pieces in there correctly????. Seems like some of the provincial flags still retain the Union jack basis if I remember right.

You better hold onto the "British" part as best you can with as many Chinese as you're getting.. .. before long it might become Pandaville.

Sorry to let you know, Brett, that the picture of the previous flag used in this blog is incorrect. And while it is similar to Ontario and Manitoba's; it is not either one of these provinces. I have seen it before and it belongs to some organization I am not sure which one. The correct flag was in fact the Union Jack; which is still the same flag that England uses.

I have never seen the pictured flag flown officially in Canada. I did some investigating on the Red Ensign and found this:
"This flag was red with the Union Flag in the upper left hand corner and the Canadian composite shield—later the coat of arms of Canada—in the centre. The Canadian Red Ensign was never officially adopted by Parliament, however, and the Union Jack was still technically the official flag of Canada".
Then on February 15, 1965, under Prime Minister Lester B. Parson, the Maple Leaf flag was officially hoisted, and remains Canada's official flag and emblem to this day.

Ok that explains it. I was having to go by a google search and just followed their simplistic response.

Also, at that time our national anthem was God save the Queen; this was changed to our current anthem of O' Canada. I can't remember the exact date of the change to our new anthem and I didn't have time to research sorry

I posted the 1837 Quebec Bank penny .. it was also 2 sous while the half penny was 1 sou... I am not certain if the banque equated to the dollar or the Ecu of the period.

Enjoyed your humerous trip down Canada's transformed flag over the decades.
GUFHAW RRR!.

iIn the nearby city of Yucaipa (former residence of L. Ron Hubbard)., upon occasion in the past the Confederate flag flew in back of local yahoos pickups... Southern Cal is not the Bay area . "With a rebel yell, give me more more more." (not really)

Numerous Rebel flags have popped up around here in defiance of the politically correct bullshit that seems to abound lately.
